Just after noon, on Friday, information coming out of The Georgetown Public Hospital revealed that  PNC/R vice chairman, Winston Murray was seen by Consultant Physicians in Internal Medicine and Neurosurgery and the results of a CT scan revealed severe hemorrhage
to his brain. Mr. Murray was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit where his condition is currently listed as critical with poor prognosis as he is also on respiratory life support. 
 

Main contender for the PNC/R Presidential Candidate Winston Murray was transferred Friday from Balwant Singh hospital to the Georgetown Public Hospital where doctors are closely monitoring his condition. While doctors are not saying much about how serious he is, there is reason to worry, according to party colleagues. When contacted today the hospital’s public relations department said that a press release on Mr. Murray’s condition will be released within the hour. The Party’s vice chairman collapsed yesterday afternoon on his way home to Continental Park.

 This morning Enmore sugar workers told TrakkerNews they will continue to strike until Sunday. 

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar is expected to address the issue of wire tapping and spying of law abiding citizens in today’s sitting of Parliament. She is expected to make a full statement on the secret operations of the Security Intelligence Agency (SIA). The units future is also to be addressed. The SIA is reported to have spied on Persad-Bissessar and other public figures over the past five years.

 Fishermen who store their boat engines, nets and other equipment that they use to ply their business in a boxer ramp (Storage room) at Goed Fortuin,West Bank Demerara are calling on the Public Works Minister Robsen Benn to be fair. Fifty fishing boat operators claim they were told that the boxer ramp is affecting the ministry to carry out their works to build a sea dam there, however they were told yesterday by an official of the Ministry that they will make a decision in ten days time.

The Guyana Sugar Corporation says that it’s operations continue to be hampered with huge losses as sugar workers remain on strike.Over 400 workers, most from the Enmore Estate took industrial action since last week for better wages and salaries. Guysuco is not willing to meet the Union demands and strongly advised on Thursday that unless there is a full turnout no negotiations will take place. For weeks now, the Corporation and the Union remain deadlock on the way forward.

With help from the heavy early morning showers and the persistent efforts of fire fighters and city council workers, the Mandela dump site fire is finally under control. However heavy smoke still engulfed the immediate environs of the dump site, causing serious health complications to residents. The Mayor Hamilton Greene, has moved to the Ministry of Health to deploy workers in the area. People with respiratory problems and small children were advised to leave until the situation is fully under control. 

Citizens are reluctant to be insured since the fall of Clico in Guyana and around the Caribbean. Now the Finance Minister is calling on the Insurance Industry to learn from the mistakes and regain the trust of policy holders. Barring the troubled Clico, the Minister explained that the local insurance industry has recorded real growth and once the confidence is restored, Policy Holders will see real benefits.
