 Farmers at Essequibo who were affected by the El Nino conditions will receive $30,000 GD each to help them boost their production. Minister of Agriculture Robert Persaud said his Ministry will also provide technical support to pine apple farmers and contribute livestock to the region.

Commander of ‘D’ division Balram Persaud said that he has no apology to give anyone in his efforts to enforce the laws against illicit use and peddling of drugs in the society. He said that the Police Force will continue to hunt for those planting the illegal herbs. "People often accuse the police of harassment, when they are enforcing the law" he said. The commander acknowledged that one serious problem that needs urgent attention is drunk driving, which he feels is responsible for most fatal accidents.

The continuous registration programme comes to an end on December 31st 2010. The People’ National Congress/Reform urges all Guyanese to take advantage of this opportunity to become registered .The party is advising citizens that the old identification card will not be used next year and you can only vote with the new card.

A Trinidadian woman is suing a New York bank claiming she was fired by her Guyanese boss because of ethnic tensions.

In a story carried in the New York Daily News, Shivana Persad, 26, is reported as saying that her boss described Trinidadians as "lazy" and "nickel-and-dime workers".

In fact he once told her: "You Trinis need to mind your own business," after Persad witnessed two co-workers having sex near a copy machine in March 2009, court papers say.

Resulting from diligent investigations, at about 3pm today, a team of police ranks and Guyana Energy Authority officials conducted a search on the premises of a fish plant at Ruimveldt, Georgetown, where they recovered a number of fuel markers that were stolen during an armed robbery on the GEA office at Quamina Street, Georgetown, recently.
 
Two men have been arrested and are in police custody assisting with the investigations.
 

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has named a list of public figures who were victims of wire-tapping by a little know police squad set up to spy on individuals. President George Maxwell Richards, Persad-Bissessar, Attorney General Anand Ramlogan and Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley are among the individuals whose phones were tapped over the past five years. Persad-Bissessar named some of the individuals who were subject to wire-tapping in a statement in Parliament today.

Head of the Criminal Investigation Department, of the Guyana Police Force, Assistant Commissioner, Mr. Seelall Persaud has released statistics showing as at 31st October (the 304th day of the year 2010), the Force has recorded 116 murders. This number represented a rate of one death every two-and-a-half days. The PNC/R at it’s weekly press conference told reporters that the reasons why the Police Force is incapable of detecting and solving so many murders are not difficult to discern.

 The Guyana Sugar Corporation Inc. Guysuco says the company is extremely disturbed by reports from retailers, who are alleging that they are being forced to pay an increase for bagged sugar by a wholesaler.
