Dr. Vishwamintra Persaud had been sacked by Health Minister Dr. Leslie Ramsammy today.
The Minister publicly apologize to all persons that were offended by the decision of the
GPHC to offer employment to Dr. Persaud.
Dr. Persaud was convicted in the United States for sexual offense.
The Minister contended that his Ministry erred in not ensuring that the employment of Dr.
Persaud was in compliance with the Sexual Offenses Act.

Georgetown-
The police are investigating an incident which occurred at the Georgetown Magistrate Court this afternoon whereby remanded prisoner Earl Melville, who was on a charge of trafficking in narcotics, drank a quantity of suspected formalin after the Magistrate informed him that he had been found guilty of the offence.
Melville has been admitted a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

West Coast Demerara-
The police are investigating the murder of Jermaine Jones, 29 years of Back Street, Ruimzeight, WCD, which occurred at about
5:00 am. today at his home.
Investigations have revealed that Jermaine Jones and the 18-year-old suspect who resides in the same house had an argument over a cell phone and Jones was stabbed about his body. He was taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The suspect has not yet been arrested.

Georgetown-
The Guyana Defence Force has officially dedicated its first Day Care Centre realising the dreams of many of its members and testimony to the Force’s efforts at putting a more human face to military life.

The Force recognises that the provision of such a service will result in improved proficiency of particularly single mothers who will be assured of their children’s well being while they are on duty.

Georgetown – The Government of Guyana will donate US$ $100,000 to St Lucia and US$100,000 to St Vincent and the Grenadines to assist the Governments of those States in their efforts to restore infrastructure and to provide relief to their citizens following the destruction caused by Hurricane Tomas earlier this month.

Cornelia Ida W.C.Dem-  Residents of Cornelia Ida voice their concerns of poor supply of water to their community to the press on several occasions, however the Guyana Water Incorporated today responded and says the communities served by the Fellowship Treatment Plant, including Cornelia Ida, had outgrown the capacity of the plant and a new well station was created to provide relief to customers of Cornelia Ida.
