The Chief Personnel Officer (CPO) Stephanie Lewis stands her ground. No new wage offer was presented to the Public Service Association (PSA) by Lewis, PSA president Watson Duke has said.
The PSA today led thousands of public officers in a march through Port of Spain in protest against a one per cent wage offer by Lewis.
In response Duke said public officers will not be resuming work for the rest of the week.

 

The entire trade union movement will joined the Public Service Association’s (PSA) fight against the one percent salary offer, president general of the Oilfield Workers’ Trade Union (OWTU) Ancil Roget has warned government. Hundreds of public officers marched through Port of Spain today. They were joined by all of this country’s major trade unions. PSA president Watson Duke is currently meeting with the Chief Personnel Officer negotiating.
 

President of the Public Sevice Association (PSA), Watson Duke, says about 20,000 public officers are expected to join today’s ‘black Tuesday reloaded’ march as they step up their protest against Government’s wage offer. However, Finance Minister Winston Dookeran says he would not bow to pressure. The PSA is protesting a one per cent wage offer by the Chief Personnel Officer (CPO). Duke is saying that only a double digit offer will do. Dookeran has warned that this would be catastrophic to the economy.

TrakkerNews was reliably informed on Tuesday that a number of private companies in Guyana are now in communication with overseas dealers to import plywood to supply the local market, after Barama was forced to shut down its operations recently. The commodity became scarce as the demand increased over recent weeks. At least two reputable hardware dealers have confirmed the move to supply the local market and are in the process of finalizing negotiations with overseas suppliers.

The theme and observance of road safety comes in the wake of several fatal accidents on the roadways over the past 2 weeks, a total of 16 deaths. So far for the year the figure of road deaths stands at 117, 20 more than last year’s figure.
