A bill to afford legal power, demarcation and land titling among other key benefits to Guyana’s indigenous people is yet to be commenced upon. Since 2006 the Ameridian Act was tabled in Parliament by the then Minister Carolyn Rodrigues. Since then there has been no head way, for which the Prime Minister accepted blame in Parliament today. The Commencement Bill 2010 provide amerindians with key rights.

Remanded prisoner Marvin Williams, who is on a narcotics charge was being escorted back to the Georgetown Prison from the court at 3pm today when he escaped while being placed in the prison van.
The police gave chase and in efforts to recapture him, Marvin Williams was shot to his buttocks and foot.
 
He was taken to the GPHC where he is receiving medical attention.
 

The Guyana Police Association  is of the firm belief that apart from rationalizations in manpower and equipment within the Force’s Traffic Department, the greatest asset in ensuring that the traffic situation is improved is through the engagement of the citizenry. More than any other factor, it is highly dependent on each person’s co-operation and civic duty in recognition of his/her responsibility in relation to the safe use of the roadways. 

 A prisoner returning to Camp street Prison was shot by the police when he tried to escape.

According to an eyewitness three shots were fired, the first a warning, the second hit a passerby under Campala Hotel and the third hit the prisoner.

The passer-by and the prisoner were rushed to a city’s hospital.

No one has been reported dead up to the time of this report.

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar says the dismissal of talk show host Fazeer Mohammed is not an attack on press freedom. Mohammed’s  dismissal from State owned media house Caribbean New Media Group (CNMG) was as a result of a cost cutting initiative, Persad-Bissessar has insisted. She made the statement this morning at the Piarco International Airport following her return from an overseas trip. A realignment of resources, is underway she said.
