Spokesperson for the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation Ms Proctor said an official report has not yet been submitted in connection with the death of Nurse Charlene Amsterdam. She said the hospital’s management is concern with a statement published in one of the daily newspaper which stated, “A close relative said that no one from the ministry or the hospital has even contacted the family to express their sympathy”. With regards to the hospital staff, it must be said that this statement is completely untrue.

Former prime minister Patrick Manning is scheduled to break his self imposed silence in the Parliament tomorrow. Manning, the Opposition Member of Parliament for San Fernando East, has not spoken during this sitting of the Parliament. Since the People’s National Movement’s defeat in the May 24 general election Manning has been mum. Seated as the last of 12 Opposition MPs Manning did not even contribute to the budget debate. He is expected to break his silence tomorrow.

Zero tolerance over rogue cops. This was the promise made by top cop Dwayne Gibbs during a town meeting in Santa Rosa last night. Gibbs promised his administration would not turn a blind eye to corrupt practices by police officers. Gibbs said he would actively pursue and uproot corruption in the Police Service.

 Director of Sports Neil Kumar disclosed this morning that Guyana’s first Olympic size pool at Patensen, just oblique to the Caricom Headquarters will officially open next Thursday November 4th, 2010.

The four hundred and fifty five million dollars facility has the capacity to host international events.
Kumar said workers are presently doing finishing touches work on the outskirts of the compound.
The fifty metre size pool facility is funded by the Government of Guyana.

A small group attached to the People’s National Congress Reform this afternoon staged a protest action outside of the Ministry of Human Services calling on Minister Priya Mankichand to demit office.
Spokesperson for the group Troy Garraway says, the Ministry has already failed the sixteen year old Queen’s college student the late Neesa Gopaul and the Minister should resign.
Garraway said the opposition party will not let this matter dissolve in thin air and calls for a speedy investigation by the Ministry and the courts.He
