A man known as Light’ this morning chopped four persons, three men and a woman at the corner of Russle and House Streets, Charlestown.The woman and a man died on the spot while the other two men were rushed to the hospital. According to residents in the area the man was seen early this morning sharpening his cutlass and saying that people would die today.
Some residents claim that the man, who is now in police custody, is mentally unstable.
 

Plans are a go for a total shutdown of the public service tomorrow. Watson Duke president of the Public Services Association has called on all public officers to  stay away from work tomorrow in protest against a proposed one percent salary increase. James Lambert president of the National Union of Government and Federated Workers (NUGFW) has pledged support against the ‘ridiculous’ wage offer. The Communications Workers Union plan to wear black tomorrow
 

Hundreds of public officers have heeded the call of the Public Service Association (PSA) to stay away from work today in protest against an one percent salary increase. The Government yesterday issued a release stating that if the PSA’s wage offer is to be implemented the budget deficit will increase by $4 billion. Public officers are currently gathered outside the Ministry of Finance on Independence Square in Port of Spain getting ready to march through the streets. Government Senator David Abdulah is among several labour leaders who have joined today’s protest action by public officers. Abdulah says as far as he is concerned there has not been sufficient dialogue over the wage negotiations for public officers. Other labour leaders involved in the march are Ancil Roget, Vincent Cabrera and Joseph Remy.
 

Police this morning believe that they may have been led on a wild goose chase, after failing to come up with evidence of an alleged kidnapping in Wisroc Linden. 16 year old  Alisha McAllister is under observation at a city hospital after her text messages and story about her kidnapping and the abduction of two other girls sent police and villagers on a frantic search throughout the weekend into yesterday Monday. A source close to the police search party told TrakkerNews that not a shred of evidence in the girls statement has been found so far.

The head of the Police Service’s Guard and Emergency Branch has been killed by car thieves. Acting Superintendent Joel Nedd was gunned down last night when car thieves stole his car around 9.30 pm. Nedd died on the spot. The bandits drove off with Nedd’s Nissan Almera motorcar. Investigations are continuing.
 

A 24-year-old Guyanese national is expected to appear in the Port of Spain Magistrates’ Court today charged with the murder of two-year-old Etean Smith. Smith was beaten to death at his Aranguez home last Thursday. The Director of Public Prosecutions yesterday ordered that a close make relative of Smith be charged with the toddler’s murder. An autopsy on Friday revealed Smith was beaten to death with a belt buckle.
