Finance Ministry creating problems for continuous registration programme- PNC/R
The Continuous Registration programme is now in its second month but the Scrutineers, who have been duly appointed by GECOM to ensure the transparency and effective conduct of this programme, have yet to receive payment. The main opposition party the PNC/R says this is an attempt to create frustration and disaffection.
UWI lecturers threaten to shutdown campus
Lecturers at the University of the West Indies are threatening a total lockdown of the university’s St Augustine campus on Monday.
Lecturers dressed in red protested the slow pace of wage negotiations at the campus today.Dr Godfrey Steele, president of the West Indies Group of Teachers (WIGUT) said the staff were perturbed by the "promises and platitudes" being offered by UWI without any real offers.
Persad-Bissessar makes courtesy call on David Cameron.
Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has paid a visit to David Cameron, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Persad-Bissessar is currently in London attending after a meeting of the Commonwealth Economic Partnership Forum which ended yesterday. Persad-Bissessar is the current chair of the Commonwealth. She visited 10 Downing Street to pay a State visit to Cameron today.
President Jagdeo congratulates Chile on Miners rescue operations
President of the Republic of Guyana sent a message of congratulations to Sebastian Pinera, President of the Republic of Chile on the successful operation which led to the rescue of the thirty three miners, an operation which benefited from innovative strategies and methodical planning by Chile’s Government.
