Denise Munroe, the woman who set her home ablaze last Thursday, will spend an indefinite time in custody, after relatives failed to post her bail of $200,000. The woman was placed on bail at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court after she appeared on an arson charge. While many believed that the woman suffered a mental breakdown, relatives are saying that she has no such history, and that her actions are as a result of a divorce with her husband of three years. Reports are that internal family disputes may have resulted in the split up which deeply affected Munroe.

Region two, Essequibo – Teachers at Region Two, Essequibo are calling on the Minister of Education to get involve and investigate why they are not being paid for remediation classes that were held during the August Holidays. The frustrated teachers told TrakkerNews that two months have passed since they were promised to be paid on August 20th 2010.

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar says this country may host an international business summit next year. She says talks are currently ongoing to make the business forum a reality. She made the statement last night at the diplomatic centre as she delivered the feature address at a conference entitled "connecting the Caribbean and Central America". Persad-Bissessar pledged her government’s support of trade and economic relationships.

A woman in her mid 30’s ran into the path of a car on Regent street and was flung into the air before landing on the busy roadway. People rushed to the scene and helped the woman into the car that hit her as the driver offered to take her to the hospital. According to eyewitnesses, the woman ran across the road from Regent Multiplex Mall and slid on the wet road caused by early morning showers, she landed in the path of traffic.

In observance of World Statistics Day today Finace Minister Dr. Ashni Singh in a message says capacity building in Statistics is a long-term commitment and Guyana Government’s support for statistics is unequivocal and for the long term.

The Public Relations Office of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation responded to an article published in the today’s (October 19, 2010) edition of the Kaieteur newspaper captioned, ‘Police ranks accuse GPHC staff of discrimination’.
Ms Proctor the spokesperson for the institution says some reporters from the Kaieteur newspaper are always seemingly in a rush to print stories that defame/discredit the hospital before granting it the opportunity to investigate an accusation which was leveled against it.

The Opposition People’s National Movement (PNM) is slamming press secretary Garvin Nicholas for claims he made during an interview this morning.
During the interview on i95.5fm Nicholas said that over the last eight years under the PNM administration, no increases were made to Old Age Pension /Senior Citizens’ Grant. The Office of the Opposition Leader today sent a release condemning Nicholas’ statements.
