ATTORNEY General Anand Ramlogan has warned top cop Dwayne Gibbs to start putting his crime fighting plans into place now because the honeymoon is over. Ramlogan made the statement today in response to the recent spike in the country’s murder rate. There have been almost 30 murders committed in the past week, according to Police statistics. Ramlogan in a press conference today said he was concerned with the recent trend.

Berbice – The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Guydat Joseph c/d ‘Rueben’, 45 years of No. 63 Village, Corentyne, who was found at about 7:15pm last night Tuesday November 23, 2010, at the Kali Temple at No. 63 Village with injuries to his head and hands. He was taken to the Skeldon Hospital where he was pronounced DOA.  The body is at the Skeldon Hospital Mortuary awaiting a PME. Three men have been arrested and are in police custody assisting with the investigations

The Guyana Sugar Corporation in a statement Tuesday said that the leader of the largest workers’ union in the sugar industry in the interview admitted that both his union and the workers recognize that their current strike action will seriously affect sugar production and went further to disclose that they were well aware of how necessary increased production was to alleviate the present financial circumstances of the industry. Komal Chand made the statements during a recent interview with the BBC Caribbean.

Minister of Labour, Manzoor Nadir, today issued a stern warning with respect to breaches of the Essential Services Act, under which a number of entities fall. Minister Nadir is re-stating this in light of two wild card strikes that have hit the electricity sector and the municipality. Specifically, Nadir refers to the strike yesterday by workers of the Guyana Power and Light Company and the strike by some categories of workers in the Linden Municipality.

Just after noon Tuesday, the body of Jaggernauth called Boyo was found floating in the vicinity of Westerback Upper Mazaruni river. The man went missing sometime yesterday afternoon after he fell overboard while returning home from a funeral. He was among others in boat when tragedy struck. His colleagues went in after him to render assistance but failed to find him. TrakkerNews was informed that the group in the boat were drinking after the funeral and while in the boat, Jaggernauth lost his balance and fell.

If a Board of Directors is not appointed for the State-owned National Maintenance, Training and Security company (MTS) by next week Tuesday, security officers will walk off the job at facilities deemed to be not Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) compliant.
This was the statement made today by Curtis Robinson, the first vice president of the Estate Police Association (EPA).
Robinson said a Board has not been approved at MTS while other lesser State owned companies had Boards instituted. Robinson referred to the Boxing Board as an example of this.
