Early morning storm hits Guyana.
The power went off, as raging winds, lightning and thunder descended on Guyana at around 4 am Wednesday morning. The storm which was expected over the weekend made landfall. Heavy winds uprooted trees,and house roofs along some parts on the east coast.
Truck driver remanded to prison after being charged with causing the death of 12 persons
Truck driver, Chetram Moonsammy, was charged on Tuesday with 12 counts of causing death by dangerous driving, when he appeared before Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s court. He was not required to plea to the indictable charges. Moonsammy was represented by Attorney at law Mursaleen Bacchus who failed to get bail for his client after the Magistrate denied it.

Since his return on Monday last embattled tv host Cn Sharma is not talking to the press and remains out of the lime light. His office however sent a statement to the press about his medical history as an answer to the recent statements made by President Jagdeo at a press conference.
Five million US Dollar investments by Guyana Furniture Manufacturing in keeping with LCDS
Agriculture Minister Robert Persaud today commissioned a show room which is a replica of a complete wooden house at Beterverwagting, produced by the Guyana Furniture Manufacturing (GFM).
Minister Persaud said the five million dollar investment will give Guyanese options and what is available using the country’s forest products.
He encouraged the management not to compromise on quality and standars since the GFM has the largest kiln-drying facility in the region and attracts both local and overseas markets.
Armed bandit caught in septic tank
A lone gunman just after 12:00 today stop a Banks DIH beverage truck which was making a delivery in Wisroc, Linden area and took away fifty thousand dollars from the driver and escaped.
The police Anti-Crime Patrol promptly responded to the report and caught the suspect hiding in a septic tank in the area. An unlicensed .38 revolver along with four matching rounds and all the stolen cash were recovered by the police.
The man is in police custody and will be charged to appear in court tomorrow.

Public officers step up protest action: “no work until next week”
The Chief Personnel Officer (CPO) Stephanie Lewis stands her ground. No new wage offer was presented to the Public Service Association (PSA) by Lewis, PSA president Watson Duke has said.
The PSA today led thousands of public officers in a march through Port of Spain in protest against a one per cent wage offer by Lewis.
In response Duke said public officers will not be resuming work for the rest of the week.
