Upper Demerara River – The police conducted a drug eradication operation at Warida, Upper Demerara River on Friday November 19th, 2010. During the operation three fields of cannabis sativa (marijuana) plants, about seven acres in size, with approximately 15,000 plants ranging between 3 feet and 7 feet in height were found along with five nurseries containing about 5,000 seedlings and a quantity of seeds. The plants and seedlings were destroyed while a man was arrested and is in police custody.

Corentyne,Berbice – The government information agency today reported, President Bharrat Jagdeo while speaking with reporters at the Little Rock Hotel in Berbice yesterday disclosed that a technical team comprising Guyanese and Surinamese will meet within two weeks to agree on technical issues that would be key to the soliciting of bids for the bridge across the Corentyne River. Suriname’s President Desi Bouterse returned with President Jagdeo after the latter’s visit to the neighbouring country on Friday.

Georgetown – Hundreds of Hindus this morning turn out at the sea wall and other fore shores to worship mother Ganga in observance of Kartik Snaan, which occurs on Purnima (Full moon) in the Hindu month of Kartik (November) . The worship at foreshores and riverbanks is  to cleanse the souls with the purifying waters of Ganga. Prayers and Offerings of prashad (lapsi and puri, bananas, water melon, coconuts, and other fruits) are made, while some engage in pooja and kirtan.

Port Mourant, Berbice – Following a productive meeting in Suriname with President Bharrat Jagdeo, the Surinamese Head of State accompanied by a delegation of his Cabinet ministers travelled across the Corentyne River via the Guyana Suriname Ferry service for a tour of Berbice which included a visit to the eye care centre.

Bare Root, East Coast Demerara-  Drains continue to be cleared as the rains persist. Addressing residents’ response to flooding at BareRoot East Coast Demerara, Minister of Agriculture Robert Persaud pointed out that, “across the country there are meetings taking place with farmers and technical officers in terms of alerting people on what communities can do in preventing wide spread flooding.” 

East Coast, Demerara – This evening there is heightened security along the East Coast of Demerara and on the East Bank, as Police erect road blocks at specific locations. There is also constant patrols in communities that were targeted by armed bandits, who continue to operate with impunity. In less that one week, there have been 6 armed attacks on citizens across the country. The Police, told TrakkerNews Saturday evening, that investigators are working on possible leads that this may be a gang of youngsters between the ages of 18 and 26 responsible for these attacks.
