A prisoner returning to Camp street Prison was shot by the police when he tried to escape.

According to an eyewitness three shots were fired, the first a warning, the second hit a passerby under Campala Hotel and the third hit the prisoner.

The passer-by and the prisoner were rushed to a city’s hospital.

No one has been reported dead up to the time of this report.

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar says the dismissal of talk show host Fazeer Mohammed is not an attack on press freedom. Mohammed’s  dismissal from State owned media house Caribbean New Media Group (CNMG) was as a result of a cost cutting initiative, Persad-Bissessar has insisted. She made the statement this morning at the Piarco International Airport following her return from an overseas trip. A realignment of resources, is underway she said.

A group of local Muslims  marched outside the Maraval Road office of CNMG this morning requesting the return of talk show host Fazeer Mohammed to office. The Muslim Organisation of Trinidad and Tobago is calling Mohammed’s dismissal a case of religious discrimination. The association’s president Imtiaz Mohammed is calling for Fazeer to be reinstated to his original position. The group also intends to march outside the Prime Minister’s office.
 

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has described the discovery of a special unit of the Police Service wire tapping phones of citizens as "frightening’. Persad-Bissessar the head of the country’s National Security Council says she does not know who the information was being collected for. The little known Security Intelligence Agency was raided by officers last month and the spying discovered. The SIA has spied on individuals for the last 5 years. 
 

Minister of Trade Industry and Commerce Manniram Prashad assured businesses and consumers that there will be no shortage of Poultry supplies for the holidays and that the price will remain stable. This announcement came following a meeting with the Guyana Poultry Producers Association. Head of the Association Peter De Groot explained that while some businesses were forced to cut back because of the high price, they can now breath a sigh of relief since the prices will remain normal before and after the holidays.
