The police today have launched an investigation into the murder of Dwayne Durant, 18 years of William Street, Kitty, which occurred at about 9:30 pm yesterday Thursday November 04, 2010, at the Georgetown Seawalls.
 
Investigations have revealed that the victim was involved in an altercation between two groups of men when he was stabbed to his neck. He was taken to the GPHC where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
 

‘A’ division commander George Vyphuis speaking at the Guyana Police Force’s Christmas security plans said serious crimes committed in ‘A’ division (Georgetown) has reduced for this year. His statistics shows that 28 murders were committed in 2009 compared to 31 in 2010 in the division.Simple larceny recorded a total of 567 in 2009 and 490 in 2010 while robbery under arms committed in 2009 were 395 and 341 in 2010.
Robbery with aggravation decreased from 57 in 2009 to 52 in 2010 while robbery with violence also reduced from 96 in 2009 to 53 in 2010.

Guyanese returning home from overseas for Diwali and other guests were today greeted with the sounds of tassa drums and sweet meat at the Cheddi jagan International Airport. The Diwali welcome was organized by the Guyana Tourism Authority and CJIA. The passengers were also to bhajan singing.
Deputy Director of GTA, Temeka Sukhdeo-Singh said the event was held to display Guyanese culture while preserving it.
 

The festival of lights will be celebrated in Guyana tomorrow and thousands of people tonight gathered along the East Coast of Demerara sea wall to view the motorcade.
The procession which consisted of fourteen floats, cars, trucks and even a horse cart departed from the Sri Krishna mandir in Campbellville. The motorcade proceeded along the East Coast highway and headed for the LBI ground where a cultural programme and judging of the lighted vehicles.

 The police are investigating the murder of fifty five year old Carl Thomas of John Street, Lodge,Georgetown. 

Investigations revealed that Carl Thomas and another man were involved in an argument over some clothes during which he was stabbed to his abdomen. He was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he died while receiving medical attention.
 
The suspect has been arrested and is in police custody.
