A 27-year-old mother who allegedly force-fed her son baby formula laced with poison two Saturdays ago appeared before a Tunapuna Magistrate today. Kalisha Williams of Gordon Street, Curepe appeared before Magistrate Nanette Ford-John in the Tunapuna Magistrates Court today. Williams, who was charged with administering a noxious substance with the intent to murder, was granted $50,000 bail with a surety. The matter was adjourned to September 5.

Both the Police Social Welfare Association and The Prison Officers Association are scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar separately today to discuss outstanding issues plaguing the two associations. The General Council of the Police Association yesterday signalled its attention to have its members boycott next Tuesday’s Independence Day celebration over outstanding wage negotiations. The Police Association is scheduled to meet with Persad-Bissessar at 3.30 p.m. today.

The revolver believed to have been used to fatally shoot police officer Jason Thomas, has been recovered by detectives. The gun was found in some mud near the Nestle compound yesterday. Police officer recovered the gun with the use off snifer dogs. Thomas, 37, a municipal officer from Jack Fruit Drive, Cashew Gardens, Longdenville, Chaguanas, was shot dead during an attempted carjacking by three "passengers"at the intersection of the Uriah Butler and Churchill Roosevelt Highways in Mt Hope on Monday night.
