The Cabinet today approved the salaries of Canadian top cop Dwayne Gibbs and his fellow Canadian Jack Ewatski National Security Minister Brigadier John Sandy said Gibbs will be paid US$205,000 annually while Ewatski will be paid CAD $200,000, at today’s post Cabinet news conference.
A 21-year-old known gang member is currently in police custody at the
Besson Street Police Station following the discovery of a cache of guns and ammunition found at his Pashley Street home today.
An AK 47, assault rifle, .38 revolver, 147 bullets and several ski masks
were found at the gang members house following a police raid in the area.
Eleven other people were also detained for other offences in the eight hour raid, police said.
An unidentified passenger is listed in a critical condition at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex following the death of three drivers in a fatal three car smash up along Solomon Hochoy Highway this morning.
Dead are Errol Francis, Basdeo Boochoon and Sherwin Thomas.
The unidentified passenger is said to be fighting for her life at the EWMSC.
Rajkumar Ramroop, the president of the Prison Officers Association, says today’s meeting with Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar was "fruitful and cordial". Ramroop and eight members of the association’s executive met with Persad-Bissessar and members of her Cabinet in a four hour meeting at the Office of the Prime Minister, St Clair today. The proposals given by the association are expected to be reviewed by an inter-ministerial team with a report scheduled to be delivered nextWednesday.
