The People’s National Movement will be holding a public meeting in Belmont tomorrow to address the 2010/2011 budget.
Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley is expected to deliver the feature address.

A man identified as Cleveland Bovell of D’ Field Sophia this morning was discovered hanging from a ceiling of a hut located at the back of his Brother’s House.

Family members were very tight lipped about the man’s death and the police barred the media from entering the premises to cover the story.

In celebration of Amerindian Heritage month, the United States of America through the local embassy in Georgetown donated 50,000 high nutritional meals to be distributed to flood affected hinterland villages.

Amerindian Affairs Minister Pauline Sukhai received the donation which was transported to Guyana via the HSV Swift, a naval ship, which docked Guyana’s shores recently.

Residents of Sister’s Village on the West Bank of Demerara woke up at 4 a.m today to find their homes under water.

Some of the residents trying to hold back tears said they lost almost everything in their homes, their furniture, household appliances, vehicles covered with water, poultry and kitchen garden.

The flooding was as a result of a spring tide and poor drainage and irrigation in the area.

Pandamonium broke out late this afternoon along the West Bank of Demerara just a few minutes drive from the Demerara Harbour Bridge.

Along  Vreed –en-Hoop village water from the Demerara River over flowed and flooded the area. It was reported that cars were unable to traverse the road because the water was about 8 inches above he ground and continues to rise.

The road is higher than the land where thousands of residents live.

At about 11:30h today 18 year old Keisha Fernandes of Block ‘Y’ Cummings Lodge, ECD, was abducted by a woman from her work place in Brickdam, Georgetown, and taken to a hotel in Church Street, Georgetown.

Acting promptly on the reports made and information received, the police went to the hotel where they found Keisha Fernandes and the woman. The woman was arrested and will attend court tomorrow to face charges.
