Imam Yasin Abu Bakr and his co-accused Brent "Big Brent" Miller are to return to court on October 6 to answer the charge of murder.
Abu Bakr and Miller both appeared before Chief Magistrate Marcia Ayers-Caesar in the Port of Spain Eight Magistrates’ Court today .
The duo were earlier in the day charged with the 1998 murder of Israel Sammy by Magistrate Nalini Singh.

Education Minister Shiek Baksh today announced that students who failed at the last CXC examination in Mathematics and English Language A will get a second chance to rewrite the test.
The Ministry of Education has adapted a one year programme to assist such students.
More emphasis according to the minister will be placed on the failed students in the Hinterland Regions.

Minister of Home Affairs Clement Rohee today told members of the public that the Police are urged to take all reports of crime since there was a lot of information of non-reporting of crime.

Imam Yasin Abu Bakr has been charged with murder.
Abu Bakr and Brent "Big Brent" Miller were today ordered to be charged with the 1998 murder of Israel Sammy by Port of Spain Magistrate Nalini Singh.
Abu Bakr is said to be in custody at the Central Police Station, in Port of Spain.
Sammy was killed on May 20, 1998, when four masked men went to his home at Darra Street, Boissiere Village No 1, Maraval. The men pretended to be police officers and dragged Sammy to a nearby ravine and shot him twice in the head, killing him instantly.

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar today confirmed government’s cancellation of the contract to bring three Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs) to secure this country’s coast.
The OPVs were scheduled to be used by the Coast Guard in this country’s fight against drug and gun trafficking.
The £150 million contract with BAE Systems to build and commission three OPVs is cancelled, Persad-Bissessar confirmed today.
But in contrast to the reports being circulated Persad-Bissessar said its is BAE that owes this country money and not vice versa.

This was Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar’s advice to Clico depositors up in arms over the government’s proposed bail out of the troubled financial institution.
Persad-Bissessar described her government’s offer of assistance to affected investors as a "helping hand" which was not mandatory.
Since Finance Minister Winston Dookeran announced the proposed Clico bail-out during the budget presentation, a group of depositors have come out in opposition to move.
 

Tv talk show host, Cn Sharma battling with a heart problem has been flown to Trinidad, to undergo a thorough check up. Following a series of complications with his blood pressure doctors here advised that he seek urgent attention abroad, since they are unable to carry out the procedure due to inadequate and requisite resources. Sharma is expected to be flown to Canada for further medical examinations. He told CT recently, that his condition is mainly due to stress caused by the constant harassment from the police force.
