Georgetown – Early this morning four armed bandits, two of whom were armed with hand guns held up two security guards at Survival Super Market at Vlissengen Road, Georgetown and placed them to lie on the ground. The police who are carrying out their investigation say, one of the men stood guard while the others broke into the supermarket and took away a quantity of articles before escaping.
No one has yet been arrested for the robbery.
Sophia, Georgetown – The People’s National Congress/Reform (PNC/R) today says the ruling People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) has a sinister plan to remain in office beyond the constitutional deadline. The main opposistion blamed President Jagdeo that he had made several efforts to stay in office after his two terms. The party claims that one option the President may have sought is to delay the 2011 election if there is a national emergency.
Georgetown – Mark Hoosein of Fourth Street, Cummings Lodge, ECD, and Rhomayne Li, 18 years of Cummings Street, Alberttown, Georgetown, were today charged with unlawful possession of explosives and throwing explosive in a public place. They appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchmansingh at the Sparendaam Magistrate Court where they pleaded guilty and were each fined $30,000.00 on the charge of unlawful possession of explosives and $10,000.00 on the other charge. The charges follow investigations into an incident that occurred at about 1:30h.
Kaneville, East Bank Demerara – A gang of five armed men, three with hand guns and the others with knives launched an attack late last night at a shop at Kaneville, East Bank Demerara, and held up the shop owner Majeed Khan and his wife and took away $100,000, two cellular phones and personal documents. Khan put up a resistance and he was shot to the chest while his wife was assaulted with a fire arm before the men escaped.
Khan and his wife is said to be in a stable condition this afternoon resting in the Diamond Diagnostic Centre.
East Coast Demerara – Businessman Tarman Piarrallal of Non Periel, East Coast Demerara aroused by a noise in his yard and upon investigating found a man Ramchand Ramdarat in his yard removing a nimber of articles. The businessman challenged Ramdarat who attacked him with a knife. Tarman in defence shot the man with his lincense firearm to his right thigh and right hand. He has been admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital while the police are carrying out their investigations.
Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has said that Government will endow the Sir Ellis Clarke Chair in Commonwealth Parliamentary and Constitutional Studies.
Persad-Bissessar made the statement as she delivered an address at Clarke’s State funeral today.
Sophia, Georgetown – The main opposition, The People’s National Congress/Reform says the destruction of the vendors’ stalls around Stabroek Market under the excuse of security considerations after the recent explosion of a grenade which killed one person and injured at least nineteen others.
Timeheri – The chief executive officer of the Cheddi Jagan International Airportn Ramesh Gheer told TrakkerNews that the bomb scare today was a hoax and all flights are schedule as per normal. This morning the airport received a call saying a bomb was planted in the departure area. The bomb squad was called in and an investigation was launched.
Georgetown – Leader of the Justice For All Party and members expressed grief at the passing of their former Prime Ministerial candidate and veteran Broadcaster Clem David. The 62 year old, former hosts of the popular Sun Rise Show passed away last evening at his Eccles home after a long prolong illness. The father of five was a JFAP region four representative until a year ago when he relinquished the post due to illness.
