Georgetown– Police this morning have launched an investigation into the failed attack at the home of former PPP parliamentarian Philomena Sahoye-Shury last evening. According to reports, someone hurled channa bomb intended for the balcony, but luckily it was grilled and the device fell in the yard. The veteran politician vowed to find those responsible with the help of the Police, she did not say whether she believes, that the attempt was politically motivated.

 Georgetown – Secretary to the Defense Board Dr. Roger Luncheon disclosed that the Guyana Defense Force has launched an investigation to find the source of the grenade which exploded at the Stabroek Market square killing one man and injuring 19 others.

Dr. Luncheon said he cannot say how long the investigation will take since the government will not disclose the army’s stock.

Sophia, Georgetown– The Central Executive Committee of the PNC/R has approved 5 nominees for it’s Presidential candidate slot. General Secreatry of the party Oscar Clarke said that the Party’s Presidential Candidate Process Committee met for its first meeting for the year 2011 on Tuesday last and reviewed the position with respect to responses received from the nine nominees, who had previously indicated their acceptance of the nomination, and submitted their relevant Curriculum Vitae and Bio Data by the closing date January 3, 2011.

Georgetown–  Four days after being shot by a lone bandit at his business place, Linden businessman Albert Joseph took his last breath last evening. Doctors say that he took a turn for the worse yesterday and was rushed to the Intensive Care Unit, where he died.The gunman entered the premises Tuesday last and held the businessman at gunpoint, demanding cash and other valuables, when Joseph pushed his hand in his pocket for the money, he was shot. The lone gunman made off with a gold chain and a mere $10,000 in cash at the cost of Joseph’s life.
