 Georgetown – Office of the Prime Minister called on scrap metal dealers to be registered and licensed  to carry out their business. The call came after the PM office found evidence of dealers operating without permission. Persons in the past have been vandalizing public and private properties t ply this trade.

Georgetown- In the absence of any special circumstances to decide the fate of a 65 year old American granny confined to a wheelchair, bailed was denied in the charge of cocaine possession. In her appearance at the Magistrate’s court she told the Magistrate that she lived all her life in the states, and is unaware of what is happening. Asked what she was doing in Guyana and about relatives here, the woman Maxine Dax gave an address in the States and explained that she has no clue what is taking place.

 Georgetown – Minister of Home Affairs, Clement Rohee said his Ministry will be aggressively pursuing implementation of capital and current projects under its 2011 budget as well as push for the completion of those that have rolled over from 2010. 

 Georgetown – The PNCR announced that all of the Party’s Presidential Nominees attended a Special Central Executive Committee Meeting and  were briefed on the next steps of the process which include the Party sponsored “Town Hall Style” meetings and preparations for the Special Congress scheduled for 26th February 2011.

 Georgetown – President Bharrat Jagdeo and Leader of the Opposition and PNCR, Mr. Robert Corbin, M.P met at the Office of the President earlier this week to discuss a number of issues of concern, particularly the functioning of the Linden Town Council and the development of the Linden community. The meeting arranged at the request of the Leader of the Opposition was intended to resolve the continued interference in the management of the Council at Linden by the Ministry of Local Government which has led to almost a state of anarchy. 

Georgetown- Just over a week after he was shot by bandits, Kaneville businessman Majeed Khan is recovering at home after doctors discharged him. The man who was listed as critical pulled through and is now assisting the police with finding his attackers. From all reports since the armed robbery last Thursday, police have a clear idea of the suspects who are believed to be residents of the same area.
