Police Commissioner investigates why State’s attempted murder case fell apart

Port-of-Spain: Police Commissioner Dwayne Gibbs has requested a report into what led to the collapse of the state's case against British couple Miriam and Peter Green.

A brief statement issue by the police Public Affairs Unit states that "following the collapse of the case against a man who was charged for the August 1, 2009 attempted murder of Wellington couple Peter and Murium Green, the Commissioner of Police has requested the Assistant Commissioner of Police Tobago to provide details relative to the court decision".

The statement says that once this information is reviewed the Commissioner will decide the appropriate next steps which will be taken relative to this matter.

The commissioner says that he is concerned with what has transpired in the court matter. The greens were brutally chopped at their Bacolet, Tobago home in August 2009.

They have since returned to England where they reside. The case was dismissed as a result of a lack of evidence by the prosecution, particularly because of the absence of the Greens at the hearings of the preliminary inquiry.
