Overloaded and dangerous

Georgetown : Over the past years Guyana has been trying to grip with the heavy increase in road fatalities and Minister of Home Affairs Clement Rohee made call on May 11th  for road safety education and enforcement to coincide as Guyana joined other countries in observing the Global Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011 – 2020.

TRakkerNews caught this young man (in photo) taking a ride on the back of a minibus which was speeding into the busy Sophia area.

When the bus made a stop the man jump off and thanked the driver for the ride who responded “ yeh mey boy “.

This is the lawlessness of some minibus drivers who are known to be the ones guilty, most of the times in road accidents.

Statistics from last year revealed that 1,377 persons were killed in fatal accidents over the last ten years, 199 of which were children, 568 pedestrians and 160 drivers. Last year saw 37 road fatalities while thus far for this year there were 40.
