Bridgetown.

President of the Barbados Chamber of Industry & Commerce (BCCI) Lalu Vaswani says it necessary to hold more activities in Bridgetown so that businesses would stay and attract shoppers to the area.

Recently, several Bridgetown businessmen have stated that newly built, well outfitted offices outside of Bridgetown had resulted in resulted in the exodus of operations from the island's capital  particularty Government offices.

In an interview with Trakker News, Vaswani said , some critical components were needed in order to attract more businesses and people into the popular town.

"The chamber is concerned about the moving out and we need to protect all jobs, both in Government and the private sector. We need more activities to keep people in the City" said the BCCI head.

"Businesses based in Bridgetown need to invest in activities and pool resources where necessary and make use of tax concessions . Government needs to continue to work closely with the private sector to strengthen and intensify their relationship", he added.

He noted that over 9000 people worked in Bridgetown and that all sectors were experiencing a decline and it was therefore difficult for them to keep their operations going while paying rent and staff.
