Minister Persaud meets with family members of late sugar worker

East Coast Demerara : Minister of Agriculture Robert Persaud and officials from the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuCo) today visited the relatives of the late factory operator, Jainarine Singh who succumbed yesterday at the Woodlands Hospital. Singh was injured during an explosion at the Enmore factory on May 15.

 Minister Persaud while expressing condolence to the relatives and friends at the man’s Triumph home assured the family members that an investigation will be conducted to determine the cause of the explosion.  
 “While the investigation will not help to bring the man back, the main focus now is to ensure that something like this doesn’t repeat itself at GuySuCo and at the same time to see how best we can assist the family,” Minister Persaud said.  
 He also assured the man’s wife and other relatives that GuySuCo will undertake the full medical expenses for the late sugar worker. 
 Singh was reportedly hit by pieces of metal plate after a defective valve exploded.
 He was employed at the sugar company for 31 years as a ‘boiler operator and was recently transferred to the ‘mills and boiler’ section.
 Meanwhile, GuySuCo’s CEO, Paul Bhim assured the man’s wife that the company will be paying her his weekly salary until, a compensation package is finalized.
Jainarine Singh passed away around 5:30pm yesterday at the Woodlands Hospital and leaves to mourn his wife and one daughter.
