Minister looking into rape case

Bridgetown.

Two  Members of the British Parliament have taken the case of two British women who were raped on a beach located on the West Coast  of Barbados within days of each other to the British Minister for Caribbean Affairs.

Diane Davis of Anglesey and Dr Rachel Turner of Hertfordshire helped free Derick Crawford the man charged with raping of raping them in October 2010. The two women told the police that Crawford was not the man who raped them and hired a lawyer to defend him during his trial. Davis, 63 and Turner, 30 wavied their right to anonymity to clear  Crawford.

They have called for an inquiry into their treatment by the Royal Barbados Police Force and why lawmen kept insisting on Crawford's guilt long after they told them he was not the man who attacked them.

Their MPs Albert Owens and Stephen McPartland have met with Mark Simmonds the Minister responsible for Caribbean Affairs to discuss the matter.

According to Davis, she hoped the meeting between their MPs and the minister would encourage the British Government to make Barbados aware they cannot treat British visitors the way they do.

Davis said she hoped the British Government could persuade the RBPF to reopen the investigation and find the man who raped them.
