Jamaican woman remanded

A Jamaican national has been arrested and charged for trying to smuggle marijuana into Barbados.

Elaine Joy Robinson, 29, arrived in Barbados on February 27, and was interviewed by police at the Grantley Adams International Airport and taken to the Customs.

A brown box containing 28 tins of Jamaican ackee was discovered by Customs Officers. A check of the tins revealed that each contained cannabis weighing 28 pound in total.

Robinson was charged with possession of a controlled drug, possession with intent to supply, trafficking and importation. She appeared in the District A Magistrates' Court and the matter was transferred to the District B Magistrates' Court.

Robinson pleaded not guilty to all charges and was remanded until April 23.
