Guyana’s coconut takes priority in 2013

Georgetown: Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Leslie Ramsammy says there is a greater demand for coconut regionally and internationally, since Guyana’s coconut contains one of the thickest kernels in the world.

This has resulted in the Ministry of Agriculture opting to ensure the coconut industry is a priority in 2013.

The Ministry’s end of year report stated that approximately 100,000 water nuts are required weekly to supply the local market’s demand. Its annual production (general) is about 240,000,000 nuts.
