Government to lay out new employment policy

Bridgetown.

Government will reveal it's new employment policy soon says Minister of Labour Dr Esther Byer-Suckoo.

Speaking to the media in the National Employment Bureau offices in the Warren Complex, St Michael, Byer-Suckoo said she had recently put a National Employment Policy be the Cabinet.

"I recently got approval from Cabinet for the National Employment Policy which was laid in Parliament recently. We will be having a full debate on employment in Barbados soon", she said.

Acording to Byer-Suckoo, the work of the bureau was now more important than ever.

"Our employment policy puts the National Employment Bureau at the centre of employment going forward. Career counselling and guidance has to be the way to go; we don't want to have a culture of that will go through school believing that the focus has to be on academia and all of them come of school with the same qualifcations and degrees looking for the same jobs, she added.
