Gordon says hundreds of lives could have been saved

Port-of-Spain: The man who recommended the State of Emergency in 2003, former media magnate Ken Gordon believes that 75 percent of the persons killed since then could have been alive today if the recommendations contained in a report had been implemented.

In 2003 a crime committee headed by Gordon recomended to the then Patrick Manning administration that a State of Emergency be instituted to address the country's crime problem.

Gordon says he is happy action is finally being taken. He recalls that when he made the recommendation eight years ago police had information that could have resulted in hundreds of guns being removed off the streets.

He also believes that implementation back then could have saved the lives of more than 1500 young men and women who were victims of crime.

Gordon believes the State of Emergency has allowed the country to breathe but he warns that the war on crime will not end after it is lifted.
