Fire destroys city store

Port-of-Spain: Fire flared just after midday on Monday at  the Nahous and Sons Store located on Charlotte Street between Queen and Independence Square.

The building houses three variety stores which specialise in furniture appliances, home decor and utensils.

There are several nearby business places but with a quick response from fire units on Wrightson Road and surroundng areas, the blaze was brought under control in just under an hour and a half.

Store owners were forced to close up shop for the day to allow fire fighters to get their job done.

Vendors who sell on the street also had to move out of harm's way. Investigators from the Fire Department are yet to determine the cause of the blaze and there is as yet no estimate on the cost of the damage and loss sustained.

Up top late Monday evening fire officers were keeping a close eye on the situaton to ensure that the blaze did not reignite.
