Community Development Programmes, Houses of Justice Facilities project launched.

Georgetown : The Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development through a collaborative effort with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), today launched its Community Development Programme and House of Justice facilities, which will be implemented within 20 communities in Regions Three, Four, Five, Six and Ten.

The initiative which was held under the theme, “Fostering Community Integration and Development”, is aimed at supporting a wide range of community development programmes identified by residents, within targeted communities.
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development, Nigel Dharamlall emphasised that the programme which fits into the mandate of the Local Government Ministry, will bring improved governance and community driven actions into the mainstream of communities.

Home Affairs Minister Clement Rohee while speaking on the necessity of the implementation of such programme, said that it is another step by Government to pave the way for the dispensation of social justice.
He assured that the Home Affairs Ministry will provide a vital support to ensure the successful implementation of the initiative, since it will serve as a one stop community based centre which will offer basic services, with the aim of advancing communities.
“The Houses of Justice will represent a popular dispensation of justice that will see the application of a new and innovative form of justice for all, since the services will quickly resolve and prevent recurring incidences of violence, crime and general insecurity,” Minister Rohee noted.
