China to assist Guyana in medical services – Health Minister to visit Guyana from September 26

Georgetown : China’s Minister of Health and Family Planning Commission, Li Bin will be leading a delegation of four Chinese Government officials to Guyana on her first official visit from September 27-29.

A release from Guyana’s Health Ministry stated that the visiting delegation will pay a courtesy call on Prime Minister Samuel Hinds, visit the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) and the Linden Hospital Complex and meet with the members of the 11th Chinese Medical Brigade (CMB).

Minister Li Bin will also meeting with patients who benefitted from services of the 11th CMB, including those who have fully recovered from complex ophthalmic and laparoscopic surgical operations at the GPHC and the Linden Hospital Complex. She will also be performing the symbolic removal of the dressings from several patients successfully recovering from recent eye surgeries from both health facilities.

The Centre for Laparoscopic Surgery at the Linden Hospital Complex will also be inaugurated during this meeting. The CMB has donated very costly laparoscopic instruments and equipment to this new unit.

Ministry of Health, Dr. Bheri Ramsaran and Minister Li Bin will be holding bilateral talks on the strengthening of cooperation between Guyana’s Ministry of Health and National Health & Family Planning Commission of the People’s Republic of China.

At the end of these talks, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is expected to be signed to formalise the outcomes.

Madam Li Bin has a PhD in Economics and was Governor of Anhui Province in February of 2012. In March 2013 she became the Minister and Party Secretary of the National Health & Family Planning Commission of China.
