Bandits rob businessman $2M after bank withdrawals

Georgetown: Three armed bandits robbed a 30 year old businessman/ Importer and his salesman of GUY$2M in cash and their cell phones after separate bank withdrawals on Monday.

The robbery occurred in front of the businessman’s home in Drysdale Street, Charlestown, Georgetown.

The businessman operates a grocery and confectionary business at Diamond, East Bank Demerara.

Reports indicate that the businessman and his salesman left his business place at Diamond in his motorbus to visit an East Bank Demerara bank to change a cheque of $1.5M and then he visited another bank in the city to change another cheque of $500.000.

The businessman then drove and went to his home at Drysdale Street, Charlestown, where he parked his motor bus in front of his yard and as he exited his vehicle a silver grey motor car, number HC 4682 came from the Western side of the said street and stopped.

The three suspects exited the car, one from the left passenger seat and the two from the back seat of the car.

One of the robbers from the front seat pointed a gun at him and demanded that he hand over the money that he just changed at the bank.

The monies were in a black plastic bag which he had in his hand while the other suspect from the back seat confronted the salesman and robbed him of his valuables.

When contacted police confirmed that the robbery was reported and investigations are in progress.
