Dead:Hazrat Shaffie

Georgetown: The son of a medical doctor was Tuesday charged with the murder of one his father’s patients, after he was seen attacking the man, kicking him to his head and about the body on Sunday evening.

Dead is Hazrat Shaffie, a 46-year-old businessman of Fifth Street, Industry, East Coast Demerara.

Charged with the indictable offence is Neilsen Sinclair of Temple Street, Ogle, East Coast Demerara. He appeared before a magistrate at the Sparendaam Magistrates’ Court and was not required to plead to the indictable charge of murder. He was remanded to prison.

An autopsy found that he died from hemorrhage and shock due to multiple injuries.

Neighbours who also witnessed the attack said the perpetrator dragged the businessman out of the car and kicked him several times to the head and left the scene. They said that the young man returned minutes later and continued kicking Shaffie and eventually left him bleeding on the road. They said no one assisted, because they all feared for their lives, since the young man would regularly attack persons in the area.

Hazrat Shaffie leaves to mourn his wife and four children. A funeral service under Muslim rites was held for Shaffie at the Ogle Masjid and his residence on Monday. He was later buried at the Ogle Cemetery, E.C.D.
