 Georgetown – Cabinet Secretary Dr. Roger Luncheon disclosed that the Government has budgeted $28M for the hosting of the National Event.

Georgetown –The police are investigating an armed robbery which was committed on two Directors of the VN Gualodice Inc, a Brazilian Diamond dealer and the security guard at Zinnia Avenue, Georgetown, at about 11:30 today by five men all armed with firearms.

Georgetown –  The Guyana International Conference Centre will be the venue for the launch of the programme which President Bharrat Jagdeo, ministers of the government and others are expected to attend.
The programme follows President Jagdeo’s vision for Guyana to be on par with the rest of the world in the ICT sector which he has listed among the new growth poles for the country.

Linden Soesdyke Highway – The police conducted a drug eradication operation at Yarrowkabra Backdam, Soesdyke/Linden Highway where seven fields, of about 6 acres in size, with approximately 6,500 marijuana plants between two feet and seven feet in height were found along with a nursery containing 3,500 seedlings and seven camps. In addition 50kgs. of dried cannabis and 3kgs.

Georgetown- As life at the Stabroek market returns to some level of normalcy following a deadly grenade explosion a few weeks ago, the police continue to investigate but have no leads of others who may have been involved in the possession of the army grade device.

 East Bank Demerara – Minister of Housing and Water Irfan Ali said when the Government made a supplementary budgetary provision last month, it was for the expediting the East Bank Development infrastructure project.

 Georgetown – A robust programme of activities to mark the International the Year of People of African Descent was rolled out last evening as Guyana responded to the United Nations declaration for 2011.

Georgetown –  The Chairman of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), Dr. Steve Surujbally, has challenged Senior Managers of GECOM Secretariat, and the Registration Officers attached to the 23 nationwide Registration Offices, to demonstrate unswerving efficiency with respect to the conduct of General and Regional Elections later this year.  This challenge was made during opening remarks which Dr. Surujbally gave at a one-day Meeting of the Senior Managers of the GECOM Secretariat and the Registration Officers.

 Georgetown – The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport will host an opening ceremony for “International year for People of African Descent this afternoon at 5pm.
