$1 million, house & land for 19-year-old Olympic Gold Medallist

Toco: A national day of celebration for this country's London 2012 Olympic heroes and in particular the youngster who brought back this country's second gold medal at an Olympics, Keshorn Walcott.

Thousands of citizens took advantage of the public holiday to greet the athletes, some waiting at the airport and for the motorcade from as early as six o'clock this morning.

The welcome ceremony, was only the beginning of what was planend to welcome them home as citizens lined the streets to usher Walcott's motorcade to his home town in Toco.

It took the motorcade almost four hours from the airport to the Valencia junction located about 10 miles away.

Walcott has become a millionaire overnight as Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar showered millions of dollars in cash and other rewards to the 19 year-old gold medal winner.

He will receive $1 million cash, a house valued at $2.5 million in one of the country's premier housing estates, Federation Park, 20,000 square feet of land in his home town, a housing development in Toco named after him, a Caribbean Airlines aircraft will bear his name and the historical lighthouse at Toco will now be named after this country's youngest and second gold medalist.

He has also been granted a full scholarship to continue his academic career.
