Vendors cry harassment

Bridgetown.

Vendors who ply their trade in several areas of  Bridgetown are claiming that they are being harassed  by police officers.

The licences of 90 vendors have not been renewed and they have been ordered  to move from their selling spots to make way for the Government to beautify Bridgetown.

President of the Barbados Association of Retailers, Vendors and Entrepreneurs(BARVEN)  Alister Alexander says it is not true that the association had agreed on the moving of the vendors as stated in a press release by Superintendent of Markets Henderson Greaves.

The press release identified the Chamberlain Bridge, the Duncan O' Neale Bridge, Vauxhall Road, Heroes Square, High Street, Swan Street, Marhill Street, Rickett Street and Broad Street as the locations from which the vendors would be moved.

"The Ministry claims that in consultation with BARVEN, they allocated had allocated vendors to the new facility, . It never never happen. I would like them to produce the records of that meeting and the day it took place", Alexander told Trakker News.

He added that the beautification of no city should elevated above productive human beings who are trying to provide for their families.
