Caribbean Governments too quiet

Bridgetown.

The Governments of Caribbean are too quiet and should be prepared to challenge the United States more.

This is the view of US Ambassador to Barbados and the Eastern Cararibbean Dr Larry Palmer, who complained during an address to the Rotary Club of Barbados that since taking up his post in Bridgetown six months ago, he was not hearing much from the region on what it wanted out of its partnership with the United States.

Palmer said the United States would continue to help the region achieve common goals and values including human development and rights, boosting security, disaster preparedness  and opening more trade opportunities but  in order to do so official in the region must speak up.

"True friends challenge one another, family hold each other accountable. One thing that has struck me in my first six months here is that I need to and would like to hear more from the countries in the region. A good partner needs feedback and indeed I want to be a good partner", Palmer said.

"I want to hear when we have disagreements, I want more input that I can carry to Washington, I want to make our partnership a truly equal two way rewarding relationship", the Ambassador added.
