UWI is developing closer ties with private sector

Bridgetown.

Vice Chancellor of the University of the West Indies (UWI)  Professor E. Nigel Harris, says the university is looking to develop a closer relationship with the private sector in the region as of its 2012 to 2017 strategic plan.

Speaking to members of the local private sector yesterday Harris said, it is the intention of  the to be  UWI  recognized as an internationally competitive university, deeply rooted in all aspects of Caribbean development and committed to serving the diverse people of the region and beyond.

"An important goal of this plan is that we can fashion a more robust relationship with the private sector not only interms of offering broad education programmes, but in the conduct of research and development, whereever possible translating new ideals and products into business opportunities", Harris said.

According to Harris, the UWI is seeking to expand its outreach and advisory services.
