US State Department honors Dr Ramayya

Berbice: Guyanese Parliamentarian, Dr Veersammy Ramayya was recently honored by the U.S. State Department.

He also received a Presidential Commendation from U.S. President Barack Obama, in addition to the President’s Volunteer Service Award for his works in the United States.

Dr Ramayya was born in Whim, Berbice to a family of whom invested their time in the fishing industry.  His political history dates back to the 1960’s. He campaigned in Florida, USA for Civil rights, and upon his return to Guyana, he re- entered the political arena. He entered an independent slate for Local Government elections under the slogan ‘people helping people. He excelled in the fields of real estate, ayurvedic medicine and cultural and religious work.  He is also a member of the political party Alliance for Change (AFC).
