House gutted, eight-year-old hospitalized

 

 

Essequibo: An eight- year-old is hospitalized at the Suddie Public Hospital, Essequibo after he sustained burns about the body Saturday night.

The lad was identified as Denzel Conway.  The fire occurred at his parent’s house at Lima Sands, Essequibo after he lighted a candle in the lower flat of the building which housed a shop. The candle had dropped next to a canister container gasoline which resulted in the fire.  The two story building was totally destroyed.

The lad escaped the fiery blaze with his 12-year-old brother who was the only occupants in the building at the time.

Fire Fighters from the Anna Regina Fire station were summoned but they were at the scene after the house was totally destroyed.

The lad’s mother, Susie Conway, at the time of the fire was at the Essequibo Technical Institute attending the One Laptop Per Family training programme. She arrived home and saw the house ablaze.
