Union boss challenged Minister

Bridgetown.

General Secretary of the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW), Dennis Clarke, has challenged Minister of Finance, Chris Sinckler to point out the inefficiencies at the Barbados Water Authority (BWA), National Housing Corporation (NHC) and the Sanitation Service Authority (SSA).

Last week Sinckler stated that several statutory corporations, inculding the BWA,NHC and the SSA were a burden to the taxpayers

Clarke in a counter to Sinckler's statements, said that if the inefficiencies of the BWA, NHC and the SSA were so great, the boards of those organizations should resign or be dismissed.

"The NUPW is going to closely monitor Government's approach to its employment policy in light of the minister's statement", said Clarke.

The union boss is querying  if the Government is planning to lay off  workers in a bid to  ease its financial burden.
