Couva: The deadline for nominations in the United National Congress' internal elections has been extended to next Sunday, after allegations of irregularities emerged at the close of nominations yesterday.
At the close of nominations at 4pm, former Oropouche East Member of Parliament Mickela Panday claimed that her name and other members of the Panday family including the party's founder Basdeo Panday, had mysteriously vanished from the party's membership list.
However chairman of the party's elections committee Khemchan Ramdath said in the interest of fairness, transparency and full participation by all members of the United National Congress, a revised and final electoral list will be issued on Wednesday and the period of nomination extended to Sunday.
