Tropical system moving towards the Caribbean

A tropical wave located about 900 miles east of the Windward Islands is producing a large area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms; however, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami, any development of this system during the next couple of days should be slow to occur due to marginally favourable environmental conditions.

This system has a low chance — 20 percent — of becoming a tropical cyclone during the next 48 hours as it moves west-northwestward at 15 to 20 mph.

In the meantime, a weak area of low pressure located a couple of hundred miles east-northeast of the northwestern Bahamas continues to produce disorganized showers and thunderstorms.

Significant development of this low is not expected due to strong upper-level winds. This system has a low chance — 10 percent — of becoming a tropical cyclone during the next 48 hours as it moves slowly northeastward.
