Too much wastage in Government says Senator.

Bridgetown.

There is too much wastage in Government departments and ministries this is the view of Independent Senator Dr. Frances Chandler.

Speaking during the debate on the Appropriation Bill in the Senate yesterday, Senator Chandler said that although there has been a decrease in government  expenditure, she still believes that there is too much wastage within Government departments and ministries.

"I think there is too much overseas travel in a number of ministries, and I cannot see the returns from this travel" Chandler said.

"I cannot understand why any minister from a small developing country should be travelling first class in good or bad times", she added.

"We know that salaries and wages are a large percentage of Government's expenditure, and we know that sometimes jobs are given by ministers to people who have no intention of working, this is wrong and adds to the wastage of government funds noted Chandler.
