GPL’s 15.6MW to be ready by August 2011

Georgetown – The Guyana Power and Light ( GPL ) today said the 15.6MW expansion of the new Kingston Power Plant are on track. On March 11th factory tests for the two 7.8MW generators were successfully completed and these Units are now being prepared for their sea voyage. They are expected in Guyana in May.

Foundation works, which are being undertaken by GPL have been progressing smoothly. The Contractor, Correia & Correia has completed the radiator foundations and is currently working on the two engine foundations. It is expected that the foundation works will be completed by the end of April, in time for the arrival of the engines in May.

GPL expects that this additional 15.6MW capacity will achieve commercial operation in August.
