Tobago’s Health Secretary resigns

Tobago: Secretary for Health and Social Services in Tobago's governing body, the Tobago House of Assembly (THA), Albert Pilgrim has resigned.

Pilgrim is also the assemblyman for the district of Buccoo/Mt Pleasant. The circumstances over his resignation are yet unclear. Officials within his party, the People's National Movement are tight-lipped on his decision.

The entire executive council of the THA met in an emergency meeting today soon after the resignation letter was handed over to the Chief Secretary of the THA, Orville London.

Pilgrim has the responsibility for the Tobago Regionl Health Authority, the Scarboroguh Hospital and the Community Employment and Enhancement Programme known a CEPEP, all areas in which the THA is currently locked in battle with the Central Government.

Pilgrim has been a member of the THA executive since 2005.
