Three still critical in hospital in yesterday’s Berbice backlands shootout

Georgetown : The police in a statement this morning confirmed that yesterday afternoon Seafield Layne, 49 years, of No.1 Public Road, Corentyne; Krishnaraj Jagdeo, 49 years, of Port Mourant, Corentyne; Clement Griffith, 48 years, of Port Mourant; David Harpaul, 37 years, of Rose Hall, Corentyne; and Zameel Abrahim, 24 years, of Tain, Corentyne, were attacked by two men armed with shotguns as they were coming out of the Follow-up Backlands, Port Mourant.

The armed men discharged several rounds at the victims who had been working in a rice field in the backlands, after which they escaped.

Seafield Layne and Krishnaraj Jagdeo were shot and killed, while the other three received injuries.

Clement Griffith and David Harpaul have been admitted to the New Amsterdam Hospital, while Zameel Abrahim was referred to the Georgetown Public Hospital corporation.

Investigations are in progress.
