The Enmore packaging plant marred by death of employee- US$12.5M facility questionable.

East Coast Demerara: The relatives of Jainarine Singh are now in deep sorrow after he succumbed to injuries last evening at the Woodlands Hospital in Georgetown. Singh was critically injured after an explosion occured at the newly commissioned Enmore packaging plant. Since a week ago Singh has been battling for his life, but according to doctors the injuries were too severe. He sufferred first degree burns and injuries to his intestines. The explosion occured as a result of a defective valve resulting in excess pressure in the pipe system according to fellow workers. Since the accident an investigation has been launched. Singh gave 31 years service to Guysuco mostly working as a boiler operator. The Guyana Argricultural and General Workers Union called for an impartial inquiry and said that it hopes that Singh's death was not caused by industrial negligence.
